Born and raised New Yorker, Maureen Cavalieri was surrounded by nature and the animals she adored. Horses, rabbits, and her beloved Dachshund, Rascal, shaped her early creative instincts, influencing many of the motifs and curations found at Maure today. Rascal lived a long, cherished life, passing in 2024 at 19 years old, but his spirit lives on. Now Remi (a.k.a. Sir Remington of Carroll Gardens), a lively Jack Russell, fills her days, and especially the Maure office, with the same bright energy and daily inspiration. 

After a brief time on Wall Street, Maureen set out to pursue her passion, graduating from The Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in 2009. She spent several years as head chef at Urban Zen and as Donna Karan’s private chef before launching her own cooking company, quickly becoming the go-to for musicians, artists, and heads of state.

Her love for travel deepened as she spent summers guest-cheffing in different countries and cooking at wellness retreats across the Mediterranean and private Caribbean islands. Along the way, she developed a deep appreciation for the artistry behind thoughtfully crafted goods. Inspired by the beauty of Mediterranean culture, its breathtaking landscapes, and the timeless simplicity of Scandinavian design, Maureen has woven these influences into the Maure collection. Keeping the exotic and unique places of the world at the heart of her inspiration, she collaborates with artisans who share her passion for quality and tradition. Working with natural materials, she curates pieces that seamlessly mix and match—designed to become future family heirlooms and timeless classics.

Maureen’s passion for creating extraordinary curations has now expanded to include designing. Under Maure’s brand, she has launched a collection of Bohemian hobnail glass, Swedish birchwood trays, pewter home décor, repurposed water buffalo pieces and leather home and office accents. Each item is crafted from the finest materials and brought to life by some of the most skilled artisans in the world, known for their exceptional craftsmanship.
