Creating the Maure product line has been such a meaningful journey for me, blending my deep connection with nature, my travels around the world, and the beauty I see in everyday moments. Growing up surrounded by animals and spending countless hours riding horses in the barn, I've always had a strong bond with the natural world. But my inspiration extends into my everyday life here in Brooklyn, where I still have my beloved kumquat tree in my backyard. Watching the bumble bees visit it each day fills me with a sense of calm and connection to nature. It's this kind of natural beauty that I try to capture in the pieces I design.
When I created the birch wood trays, I wanted to bring that same organic essence into the patterns and details. The natural grain of the wood, the subtle patterns illustrated ion each tray, are inspired by the flowing lines and textures I find in nature—whether it's the delicate shapes of leaves, the gentle curves of a tree branch, or the mesmerizing beauty of the bees around my kumquat tree. Each tray is more than just a functional item; it's a reflection of nature's quiet, powerful beauty, meant to bring a little piece of that serenity into your home.
A lot of my inspiration also comes from my travels around the world. I've had the privilege of working with artisans in Sweden, known for their expertise in birchwood craftsmanship, and other incredible makers who pour love and time into creating these pieces. Each tray, along with our other products, tells a story. They are not only made to last but to evoke a sense of place, whether it's a reminder of a beautiful landscape or the connection between people and their craft.
Even the animal motifs you see throughout the collection—like the zebra or the heron—carry special meaning. The animals that have been part of my life are also part of the ever-evolving inspiration I draw from. I wanted to incorporate them into my designs in a way that reflects the grace and majesty they embody. These animals, along with the natural patterns I see in the world—each one perfectly formed—are reflected in the products I create. These pieces are not just decorative; they're part of the story I'm telling with Maure, a story rooted in my connection to nature and the animals that have always been a part of my life.
